Encasing a Cabochon with Bead Embroidery

In my new Eye Pendant tutorial I show how to encase a cabochon with beads using peyote stitch. But another way to secure the cabochon is to use two rows of a simple bead embroidery technique called back stitch. Below is an excerpt from my Black Eyed Susan tutorial which shows how to do this, although for the glass eye cabochons I would suggest using size 8 beads for the base row and size 11 for the upper row to give a little more height.

Tutorial for amazing embroidered pendant. Draw with a compasses 2 circles 5,5 cm in diameter and then ur pattern inside circle. Cut templates. Put template on the fabrick, pin it, outline it with a marker or a chalk and cut.

I consider beadwork to be one of my most creative outlets. I love coming up with design concepts and bringing each piece to life. I’m often asked about the process in which they are created and I can give a very general answer explaining how the beads are hand embroidered to the backing material and then it’s turned into wearable art. People inspect it and sometimes can’t wrap their brain around how it all comes together. This time around, I thought I’d take some pictures during the process so I could show the steps that are taken as a piece is created.
