Last week, I saw my first residential Christmas tree twinkling in the front window of a neighbor’s house. Even if you’re not quite “there” yet, you might want to get started on your first holiday project. (You know how long the stitching can take, what with the various interruptions of life.) This “Holiday lights” bracelet by Josie Fabre is worked in peyote stitch with Miyuki Delica cylinder beads, and the pattern is free for anyone to download. Fa la la la laaa, la la la laaa!
Five Tips for Better Peyote Stitch Bezels

I had an idea once for a piece of beaded jewelry. It was based on a piece that I had seen in an online auction catalog from one of the big auction houses, and it was a gorgeous diamond and enamel necklace from the early part of the twentieth century. It didn’t look too hard to re-create using Swarovski crystal rivolis and crystal frames. For an eighteen-inch necklace, I only had to make peyote-stitch bezels around twenty-eight 12mm Swarovski rivolis. Easy, right?
Peyote Stitch Sampler Bracelet

This peyote stitch sampler bracelet was such an exercise in patience for me!! But it was all good since I love the results and feel like I have a better understanding of the stitch. I’ve decided to take a more focused approach to learning bead stitches. I’m still trying to learn how to make Miguel Ases Style jewelry. I have made progress with simple designs like brick stitch circle components, but I know I need to understand more stitches and the thread paths. There’s only so much I can figure out on my own – lol. I also need to understand how to build patterns.

It drove me crazy to get a Peyote Stitch bracelet near completion and realize I had a misplaced bead. I have added a tutorial to my website that will show you up close how to take out the bead and insert a new one. Shhhh nobody has to know, it is invisible! I hope it can help someone!

The Power of Peyote Stitch with Jean Power

Almost since I first began beading, my love of the craft has gone hand in hand with my love of peyote stitch. Though I found it tricky to master at the start once I had I realized my brain just seems to work in peyote. I can do every other stitch, and often design in them when called upon, but give me a needle and thread and without thinking peyote stitch is what appears.
