And so I decided to make my own matching bracelet. And hopefully with this Instructable, you will want to make one too, for yourself or maybe your own Tiny Hands. Here’s my latest piece, a quilted wall hanging. The fabric is pieced cotton and silk, and appliqued with bead work. I call it, “Super Right Angle Weave: 18 Patches in 3 Colors and 3 Sizes” because I’m not very creative with titles. Florence suggested I call it “RAW Diamonds,” which I like. The whole piece measures about a square foot, including the border.

One way to minimize the amount of thread showing between beads when you’re stitching in right-angle weave is to pick up extra beads, kind of like buffer beads, on either side of the main color beads. The thread path for this technique takes a little extra thought, but once you get it down, you can create some lovely, lacy beadwork using right-angle weave that you just can’t replicate with any other bead-weaving stitch!

I’d venture to say that right angle weave is one of the simpler stitching techniques, and it provides a great gateway for beginners who want to explore stitching. Several reasons why I like this project: 1) the instructions are exceptionally clear; 2) the project uses two needles – one in each hand, so there’s no left hand right hand issues; 3)the technique is very simple and gives you a feel for using needle and thread with beads, and it initiates an understanding of how other basic stitches are achieved…
