Free Wire Jewelry Tutorials (3/21/2014)
When I started beading, I started with stringing. Then I took a few beginner beadweaving classes. Next, I had to know how to wire wrap dangles and make simple loops so I could incorporate them into stringing projects. So I took a lot of wire and chain maille classes… until I met half-round and square wire. For some reason, I just couldn’t get my hands and fingers to do what I wanted. So now, I’m a dedicated bead weaver. Still wrap dangles and make simple loops… Maybe wirework is YOUR cup of tea – enjoy these projects.

A curvy, abstract wire pendant is the focal element of this eye-catching necklace. The wire pendant measures about 2.75? (7cm) wide x 3.3? (8.5cm) high. We’ll do two unusual things while making this necklace: We’ll work directly from our roll of wire, waiting till we’re finished to cut the wire. We’ll avoid tool marks on our wire . . . by not using tools.

This chain uses many of the skills that I’ve written about in recent posts – making a simple wire loop and hammering for pattern and strength. I think it is a beginner wire project and unlike the hammered wire bones link chain – it comes together very quickly!

If you have been following me for a while, you probably already know I love working with wire! When I was recently cleaning out my jewelry supply/craft storage shelves I came across this sweet pink wire. Is it perfect for Valentine’s Day or what? This is a very sweet dainty bracelet that you can make with pink wire like I did or use silver or copper.

In this video, I’ll show you how to wire wrap a bead on a headpin – which is a basic jewelry making technique that’s great for everyone to know! Wrapped loops are much more secure than simple wire loops – I almost always prefer a wrapped loop to an open loop. Another advantage to the wrapped loop is that since it’s more secure, you can use much finer wire than you can with the open loops.

In this post I showed how to use Dimensional Magic and glitter to transform glass pieces. Now I’m going to show you how to make your own bezels out of jewelry wire, which you can fill with the glitter mixture I showed you before. I have seen this wire in the crafts section at Dollar Tree, and you can find floral wire there, too, if you want something wider. In addition to pendants, you can use this idea to make embellishments for cards and scrapbooking, magnets, or hair pins.
