I recently tried Kumihimo braiding with beads and I really like it. I have some great inspiration today, along with some tips Kumihimo and information on getting started. I think I’m going to have to try the one with the spikes. Isn’t it cool?

To showcase the range we have combined them with two other timeless favorites; the Kumihimo braid and 4mm Swarovski Bicones. We think they look spike-tastic as a woven bracelet and would look ‘rock n roll’ cool as a necklace too.

This is one of the differences between bead crochet and Kumihimo. The patterns can be different. Another difference is that Kumihimo does not stretch; however, bead crochet does stretch because it has slip stitch knotting in the middle (if you doing slip stitch bead crochet, that is. There are several ways to do bead crochet). This is the way that those lucky enough to own a bead crochet bracelet roll it over their hand to have it snap back to exactly their wrist measurement.

After learning the basic Kumihimo Braiding I got hooked. I didn’t do a lot of projects but I really enjoyed it and be sure to do more. YouTube is full of tutorials. Here are some examples of how I combined my two loves Kumihimo and beading.

Beaded kumihimo makes a wonderfully portable craft, once you’ve loaded your beads onto the threads placed on your kumihimo disk. Using a small, lightweight foam kumihimo disk means that you can take your kumihimo projects along with you wherever you go.

These “Painting with Beads” necklaces have more variation in beaded patterns and I am using 8/0 seed beads instead of 6/0 seed beads. For those of you that need a reminder, 8/0 seed beads are smaller than the 6/0 seed beads and this makes for a smaller diameter beaded rope and the beaded patterns appear more detailed.
