Bead Embroidery Tutorials (4/3/2015)
I love the look of bead embroidery, but it’s not my favorite beading project to do. I always try to cram too many beads in and it ends up looking lumpy instead of smooth. On the other hand, I do love the Orthocera Pendant. I have several of these, as fossils fascinate me. I majored in Anthropology/Archaeology in college, and took a lot of Geology and Paleontology, so I love to collect fossils. Might have to dig one out and give it a try.
Orthoceras Pendant With Bead Embroidery

This fossil is called an Orthoceras, and I bought it on our trip to Alaska in 2013. I’ve been looking for the perfect project to use it, because I think it is SO COOL, and I didn’t want to waste it on just anything. Recently I’ve gotten into another pendant-making kick, so that seemed to be the best choice for my little fossil. The patterning on it is really interesting, and I didn’t want my beadwork to overpower it, so I kept it very simple…a few seed beads and a handful of glass pearls, all in black and grays.

The following is a step-by-step tutorial with aided pictures for how to make your own set of beaded moonstone shoe clips. Thread your needle with about a yard of the white beading thread. Bring it up through the center of a piece of the stiff white felt, cut to a square of about 4 inches. String on the 14mm teardrop gemstone bead, and bring your needle back through the felt on the gemstone’s other side.

I’ve been saying for awhile that my Intro to Bead Embroidery Components tutorial was just about done. But this time I can say it is finally ready! I know, it’s taken me a lot longer than I expected to complete it, but that’s because I kept getting one more idea to include something else… Finally I had to quit adding more projects to the ebook tutorial, or else I was never going to finish!

Another bead embroidery project with tutorial: This is my second bead embroidery project. I didn’t use a pattern of something, I used started sewing on some beads. First of all, choose a fabric to sew on the beads. I used black fabric, that was originally the band of a bag. I think a luggage strap will also work well! Measure it on your wrist and make it a bit bigger, so you can fold and sew around the edges
Shibori Ribbon Bead Embroidered Bracelet

My friend Julie suggested the name Tidal Pool for this bracelet, and I think that’s perfect since it’s decorated with pearls and features an ocean jasper stone focal! Prepare the base by drawing a rough pattern from your metal cuff and copying it onto fusible interfacing. Iron the interfacing to the back of the foundation fabric. Do not cut the piece to size…leave a healthy margin because it is almost sure to shrink up a bit as you stitch.
