Beaded Beads Tutorials (4/1/2015)
I found some great beaded bead patterns and tutorials today. We don’t always have time to finish a large project, but with beaded beads, you can make something in an evening or two and get a lot of satisfaction from it. What a great way to make a fast piece and infuse a bit of spring using “springy” colors.

Ever since I learned how to make a dodecahedron beaded bead using right-angle weave, I’ve been fascinated with the many possibilities for stitching and embellishing them. Once you learn the basic thread path, a simple dodecahedron beaded bead can be stitched up in just a few minutes, making them a great option for beaded necklaces and bracelet-making projects.

This design uses two layers of QuadraTile beads, Japanese seed beads, and round beads to create two different sizes of circular beaded beads. The inspiration for this design originally came from the Double Pinwheel beaded beads, which use two-hole triangles for a more pinwheely shape. I had originally thought that the QuadraTile beads could combine with the triangle beads using a similar pinwheely technique, but that didn’t pan out quite the way I had imagined it, so these turned into nice rosette beaded beads instead.

Pinch bead dodecahedron Zuzana embellished with Pressed Disc Beads. Pattern for basic beaded bead is free. Supplie: 90 pinch beads – 30 pinch dark colored pinch beads and 60 light colored pinch beads for bicolor beaded bead (2 colors are better for beginners), beading thread and needle and plastic or wooden core bead.

This necklace features Pantone’s 2015 Color of the Year, Marsala with aquamarine blue and titanium gray. It includes 8 beaded beads: 5 Nuts & Washers, a Cube Cluster, an Octahedral Cluster, and a Conway Bead. I carefully selected 7 lampwork glass beads to make the strand into an asymmetric, yet perfectly balanced strand of beads. That’s 15 beads in all. Together they make a pallet that is rich and earthy, sophisticated, and oh-so in fashion.

I’m tired of winter colors…I want spring, and I want it NOW! Since I live in New England and can’t always have what I want, the next best thing is to make spring jewelry. I asked for a couple of fabulous wire edged ribbons from Offray Ribbons in beautiful springy colors: wild berry and violet. The wires give you a bit more structure, which I thought would pair perfectly with some beaded beads!

Confession: I am addicted to this right angle weave (RAW) beaded bead. The pattern (“Amphora”) is from “Beaded Opulence” by Marcia DeCoster, and I have stitched it 3 times already, and have pulled beads to stitch it 2 more times!
