Bead Embroidery Tutorials (3/3/2016)
Bead embroidery is such a free-form technique. I know many of us struggle with free-form, whether it is bead embroidery, bead weaving, bead stringing, wire work or metal work. I find bead embroidery is the easiest to try out free-form techniques.
4 Ways to Create Surface Bead Embroidery
Surface bead embroidery is a wonderful way of creating complex designs for jewelry, garments and other fashion accessories. The best known and most popular method used by jewelry artisans is with needle and thread. Ann Benson of Beads East has a wonderful video tutorial to show the basics of bead embroidery. The technique of back stitching and couching with beads is easy to do for all sorts of free form designs.

I am a self taught beader. I became interested in beading about 2 years ago when I wanted to spice up a shirt. So I went out and bought beading supplied and learned using trial and error. Then I got some beading books at a used book store; those are the best for finding cool books for making crafts!
Aren’t beaded beads fun? They can be the focus of a necklace or bracelet. They can be earrings. You can string a bunch of them for a necklace or bracelet. And they are great for using up leftover beads!

How to Make a Simple Beaded Ball

A couple months ago I finally learned how to create a simple beaded ball. Or at least, this is my variation. Materials you will need: 12 beads (24 for two balls), nylon monofilament (can use fishing line also), scissors or wire cutters.
Peyote Stitch Bead Patterns (2/25/2016)
What? You haven’t learned Peyote stitch yet? There’s no better time than now. I have several different beginner’s tutorials, so if one doesn’t make the lightbulb go off for you, try another. Everyone learns in different ways, so don’t give up if one tutorial doesn’t work for you.

The base for all of my rivoli patterns is the peyote bezel. Made up of size 11/0 Delica beads and 15/0 seed beads, this beaded bezel—or cup—holds the rivoli in place and also enables you to embellish the rivoli by beading around it.

Peyote stitch looks very much like brick stitch, only turned sideways. The way it is stitched, however, is quite different. The rows of beads wind up “staggered” so that each row nests into the rows above and below it. (You can see this in the two small sample patterns shown below.) Peyote is a vibrant, versatile stitch that can create an amazing soft “cloth” or beautiful stiff freestanding vessels depending upon how you work it up.
Seed Bead Bracelet Patterns (2/23/2016)
Can you ever have enough bracelets? Seems like no matter how many I make, I’m always missing the color I need to match a necklace, or earrings or outfit. Or I have the color with gold, but I want it with silver. Good excuse to make some more!
Mabeline has always been captivated by the beauty of the chrysanthemum and its concentric pattern of petals. The Chrysa is her beaded interpretation of this full blossom. It’s a bejeweled and sparkly corsage, perfect for day or night! You can adapt this design easily into a pendant for a fancy necklace or an elegant brooch to adorn your favorite scarf in any season.

This is my variation of the Daisy Chain stitch. It is not an original pattern, but it is my version of the pattern. If you do a web search for Daisy Chain you will find many different versions of the same stitch. The pattern can be used several ways, by adding a variety of beads; you can get a different look. You can make bracelets or necklaces. Or as you can see in my sample, I have made an eyeglass holder.
